All Eternity Shakes: How Could God Allow Children to Die in an Elementary School Shooting?

I normally provide links to older posts that might have been unseen or forgotten.  Today, in light of the elementary school shooting in Connecticut yesterday, I want to provide a link to an astounding post yesterday written about trying to make sense of that shooting.

All Eternity Shakes: Mormonism's Weeping God  - Jacob (By Common Consent)

Truly, we are gods and devils.  Let's do whatever we can to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to earth through our own actions and not blame or wait for God to do it for us - or sit and wait for a future kingdom.

I sometimes wonder if our outrage is very, very misplaced. Yes, twenty-something Caucasian American children were killed by a gunman yesterday, but what about so many other children around the world who sometimes die in larger numbers? Where is the outrage for them?

Our American children are no more special to God than all the other children -- I really believe this -- and I try to share the same sympathy and understanding for all of us -- we're in a mortal condition -- men will sin, the earth and elements will converse, and there will be death among us. In all of this, thanks be to God for the glorious Gospel plan of salvation. And how much mourning I want to do with the bereaved. But anger towards God? No.

I don't know. We all feel it. We waver between anger, sympathy, and deep, deep sadness. But what I hope that I come out of this feeling nothing but love. Love for the children, love for the families, love for the rescue workers, the community, my family, love for the haters, and love for the perpetrator and those suffering from mental illness, and especially for God.

Amen, Christy - with "love" being an action verb directed toward all who suffer and not just a feeling toward some.

ji, I agree - and I love that Jacob's post reaches that conclusions.
